For all of you who were grossed out by the MTV freak show, here is a small antidote: check *both* of the You Tube uploads of Kristin Chenoweth’s concert at the Hollywood Bowl last Friday. She asked a random member of the audience to join her in “for Good” from “Wicked,” and ended up with 26 year old Sarah Horn, a voice teacher in one of S.C. schools and the music director of The Riverside Youth Theater, who has an immensely warm and well trained mezzo soprano, and clearly knew not just the song itself but also the melodic and improvisation traditions of American music and her craft as a singer. The reaction of the audience, Kristin, and the conductor when she opens he mouth is amazing. Each you tube provides different details, and the audio I better in the one taken by her friend Bill Keller, but the video is better in the other.
