For all the Veterans I know, and those I dont~ From Greg Pruett ~ For those of you who know my wife you will know how wonderfully talented she is. She has a wonderful gift from God. She wrote a song about PTSD for which her grandfather suffered and many other men and women suffer from. Her words are below in quotes and her song on the Youtube link posted. Please share this with all your veteran friends and family and especially with those who suffer from PTSD. I normally dont ask people to share my stuff. But today I am asking if you are a veteran or know a veteran who has or had PTSD, please share. This song is in honor of Veterans Day next week. I know from feedback that this hits close to home. It will make their day! One night back in April I couldnt sleep. As I laid awake a distinct tune and line came into my head. It caught me by surprise and I wrote it down with worry I would forget. Inspired, I finished writing the song the next day. I knew immediately who it was coming from and I only had the chance to meet him a few times. Growing up we didnt talk much about Grandpa Milham. When we did I would hear things like, He was manic depressive, or He was crazy. In January of 2001 my parents flew to his funeral. While there they received a shocking revelation. Grandpa had been an Army sniper in the Korean War. My dad had lived his entire life not knowing the truth. They learned that day that there was a name for Grandpas crazy. PTSD-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder At the funeral many people talked of a fun loving person that was forever changed from the effects of war. The memories were something he could never shake. It crippled his relationship with his family. He suffered in silence for years until it became too much to handle. Their family split up when my Dad was young. I now know that Veterans arent the only ones who suffer from PTSD. The entire family suffers the effects as well. I know without a doubt that these are the words he wants his family to hear. This is his story. *Due to a house fire when my dads family was young, there are only a few remaining pictures of my Grandpa. I filled the extra space with real pictures from the Korean War thanks to the internet.
