For almost 30 years Ive been able to support myself & family as a working musician... It has not always been easy and it is alway a shaky ship that you have to learn to maneuver through every wave. Ive been fortunate, but its always an ongoing struggle. Still, to this day I get folks giving me that bewildered looks when they say you actually make a living doing this?. Like anything worthwhile, it takes a professional attitude and integrity. But I do refuse to be taken advantage of in this or any business... Beware of the word showcase my fellow young musicians... I hear it more and more & I have certainly done my share in the past. But I can honestly say I have never benefit one tiny bit from a showcase as I watched these event crowd with patrons enjoying, paying entrance and buying beer. If you are good enough to them to play, you are good enough for them to pay! The only way you are gonna get paid what you are worth over the long haul, is if you dont accept anything less than what you are worth now. There are no exceptions!
