For anyone interested, I just finished building my own fibreglass sandwich deck (the Pool Plank) just for the hell of it. I made a mould out of pine, shaped two layers of 4mm marine hardwood veneer ply and sandwiched 5 layers of 200 gsm bidirectional glass. I put another two layers of glass on the top afterward. It was pressed with clamps and a layer of cork to protect the wood then stained and sealed with epoxy.. Im very pleased so far.. has a slight, comfortably flexy ride.. but not too much.. Cant wait to carve on it but havent yet.. just thought Id post this if anyone wanted to try the same for fun.
