For anyone who has family members buried at PARK CEMETERY..... As you may have seen on the news or been told by someone, comments and or accusations have been made in respect to a headstone being damaged at the cemetery and supposedly such damage occurring inadvertently by staff at the cemetery. Please be advised I have been informed that the administration at the cemetery has addressed such concern with the family directly and has resolved the issue. These situations are unfortunate, BUT also create uncomfortable feelings that nobody likes to have, whether it be family of a deceased nor the staff nor administration at Park Cemetery. Like this grave that was the issue currently, such headstone was not made of the proper materials and in accordance to the rules and regulations established at cemeteries and therefore the easy ability for it to be damaged, thus creating a feeling of liability. It has been the wish of the administration for some time and did not wanted to intervene with the displays that people put on graves for their loved ones. Unfortunately such wishes have created displays to be overgrown, out of control in some instances which have created an unfavorable appearance at the cemetery and a lack of organized appearance which is apparent at other cemeteries which also have regulations and rules in respect to what is allowed on graves. Also even materials which are not consistent with what is appropriate durable displays of identifying graves such as a TEMPORARY grave marker or a Headstone made of durable Northern Granite with a Foundation poured by the Cemetery Staff to appropriately support such stones. Therefore, please be advised of the following rules and regulations that will be enforced. Understand that these ARE NOT NEW RULES. These rules and regulations have been established since inception of cemetery, but due to the liability reasons they will be immediately STRICTLY ENFORCED. Therefore Effective Tomorrow, April 22, 2014, the following things will occur at the cemetery. 1. Any and all Plastic Ornaments or plants will be allowed ONLY during the Months of November 1- Through Feb. 28. Before or after those dates listed above, any and all Plastic items will be removed and discarded by Cemetery Staff. 2. Only 12 inches in front of a headstone, and 24 inches across the front of the headstone will be the area permitted to plant any natural small plant or flower from March 2 - Oct. 30 . Anything out of such dimensions will be removed by cemetery staff and discarded. If you have been unable to purchase a headstone, please see cemetery staff to clearly lay out the space that you are permitted to lay any floral decorations until such headstone is placed. 3. Only Headstones made in accordance to durable materials of Northern Granite will be permitted on graves and must be arranged through the office so that a foundation is appropriately poured to support such headstone. 4. Balloons, latex or Mylar, ARE NOT to be left at the cemetery on Graves. They are not only hazardous to the natural habitat around and above the cemetery, but also in the overall appearance and atmosphere within the cemetery. 5. Anything out of the dimensions set forth above ( 12 inches depth x 24 inches wide ) will be removed to prevent damage to the landscaping equipment as trees, plants and grass is being trimmed and may be caught up in the equipment. 6. Items which are made of materials not specified to be appropriate for identification and/or may be located outside the boundaries set forth, will be removed to prevent liability from cemetery staff and Administration for such items or identifying items. For a full set of rules and regulations, please contact the cemetery office at (203) 334-8165. Also, signage will be posted throughout cemetery. The appearance and atmosphere at the Cemetery should be one of elegance and organization and should reflect a peaceful atmosphere where EVERYONE should feel comfortable remembering their loved ones. Therefore, the same atmosphere organization & comfort experienced at every other cemetery throughout Bridgeport and beyond will be the purpose intended to be accomplished by the staff and administration at Park Cemetery. Everyones cooperation is appreciated as the Cemetery makes this transition for the improvement of the grounds, appearance, and entire atmosphere throughout the cemetery. Signs will be posted throughout cemetery as to specific details of what is permitted and again, please feel free to graciously ask any cemetery employees for direction and they will graciously assist in the guidance needed. Springtime is here and new loom is being placed to see some new beautiful grass and the blooming of the trees. Let us all work with them to make sure we contribute to the beauty of the atmosphere there and create a little piece of heaven on earth working together to beautify the final resting place of loved ones interred at the Park Cemetery, Bridgeport, CT Blessings to all.
