For anyone who is interested. APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR THE NEXT FRINGE FESTIVAL PRODUCER Minister for the Arts Joy Burch today called for expressions of interest from producers to create the 2015 fringe festival, to run alongside the National Multicultural Festival in 2015. An estimated 18,000 people attended the 2014 fringe festival, which involved hundreds of artists over four performance days. The fringe festival is an important event for established and emerging artists in the ACT. While the National Multicultural Festival is focussed on communities and families, the fringe by its nature is alternative and edgy, Ms Burch said. We are looking for a dynamic producer and I would encourage applicants to consider how they might bring a vibrant and experimental edge to the National Multicultural Festival. I am looking forward to an event that showcases the diversity of alternative art being created and produced in the ACT. This will be a great opportunity to explore and celebrate the diverse multicultural experiences including cross-cultural performances, exhibitions and activities. Individuals or organisations can apply. The producer budget is $20,000, with up to $20,000 in additional in-kind support from the National Multicultural Festival, including staging, security and promotion. While the $20,000 budget is below the level necessary for a tender process, I hope that my decision to call for expressions of interest will prevent next years fringe festival being hijacked by cheap political point-scoring at the expense of the producers reputation, Ms Burch said. Expressions of interest open on Saturday 12 July 2014 and close on Monday 4 August 2014. Information is available from artsACT on 6207 2384 and at arts.act.gov.au.
