For anyone who is under the impression that the only way/or best way to lose weight (even though its likely to be excess body fat you are really trying to lose) is to count calories, I have a question for you. If all you have to do is count the calories in and count the calories out to ensure you dont become obese or fat, then how do athletes such as Michael Phelps consume around 12,000 calories a day and remain so fit and athletic to win multiple Olympic gold medals? You have to realise calories arent just used for exercise. Calories are a measure of energy, and you literally use energy in everything. Sleeping, eating, reading... EVERYTHING! If you think the calories in are the same as the calories out, Im assuming you think if you count your carbohydrates, fats and proteins, then that will work too? Im not saying it doesnt, Im just pointing out the fact that not all carbs, fats and proteins are the same. Although different carbs release the same amount of calories per gram (4.1g) they are used differently. For example, glucose is used for energy in every cell in the body, and is actually used in the brain, so why on earth would you want to cut down on that? Its still a carbohydrate! However fructose on the other hand works/is used completely differently. This is a carb I would recommend you aim to stay away from. There is a lot more research into the science behind diet and how certain foods effects hormones in the body, than to assume going on huge calorie deficits is a healthy and effective way to get yourself the body shape you are trying get!
