For anyone who read the recent Washington Post opinion piece - TopicsExpress

For anyone who read the recent Washington Post opinion piece telling all of us to stop blaming cops for aggressive responses to indignant citizens, I present this video. This guy clearly wasnt getting aggressive, the officers cant provide him with any basis for why he must comply with their orders, never provide him with an explanation about what act he took that raised their suspicions, and yet he ends up arrested and taken to jail for not meekly accepting his circumstances. It seems fairly reasonable to me to require the police to at least a) have a particularized basis for suspecting an actual crime have been committed by the person stopped before stopping and questioning any individual, b) have the common courtesy of informing the individual of that reason, and c) that if the first two elements are not met then the officers cannot arrest the individual for his refusal to talk with them. If they cant do that then yeah, you should be able to walk away unmolested. He could have complied and this never would have happened, but why dont we also demand that the cops only arrest people for actual crimes as opposed to criminalizing the refusal of lawful citizens to be treated as criminals?
