For as long as Ive been in church I think there have been debates - TopicsExpress

For as long as Ive been in church I think there have been debates on music... what is appropriate to enjoy/engage/celebrate... and what is not... Usually, the argument is that secular music is wicked and should be ignored by believers... but I think that there is a loose definition on what is meant when many Christians say secular music. Secular by definition is something absent of religion... so the alphabet song would be a secular song:) I doubt anyone is against the alphabet song... but I would agree that many of the mainstream artist promote anti Christian values and should not be supported/celebrated... There is also a sub category of this where there is an argument that the lyrics by themselves are wicked but instrumentals are not... so you can take the beat of a song and use it for good:) So I am asking you who are professing to follow Christ... Is secular music okay for Christ followers?:) If so, what do you consider to be secular?... also if you feel that there is wicked/inappropriate music... what causes it to be wicked? Lyrics, instrumentals, or both?
