For comparison to my previous post, here are The Shadows doing the original, from July 1960. Not sure what show this footage is from, or if its studio footage. This would not be the version that got us Yanks familiar this this song, as British music hadnt yet began crossing the Atlantic as it would do extensively four years later. Jørgen Ingmann, a Danish guitarist, would bring a more pop-sounding version of it to the States in January 1961. The Shadows version, IMHO, was guitar rock at its finest in 1960. The 18-year-old with the thick glasses you see seated playing guitar is none other than Hank Marvin, who along with being one of Jeff Becks guitar influences, was also a big influence on just about every British guitar player for followed him for the next couple of decades.
