For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter - TopicsExpress

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silent, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace. Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 As law enforcement officers, we need to know when to be hard and when to be soft, the balance of the hammer of justice with the arm of compassion. We use our discretion in many decisions that we make. This comes from experience. We need to weigh the evidence in front of us, and make the proper decisions. We cannot always come in and be a heavy. We also cannot always be soft and let people off the hook. We need to use our discretion, and have the proper response to the situation. This decision can be very difficult. We should not always react in a way that we believe is appropriate, but react in a way that God would believe is appropriate. We know that God allows for each end of the spectrum, and all the response in between. We just have to know the right time to use each of the responses. Allow God to influence your reactions to situations. Sometimes these decisions need to be made in a split second, other times, we can weigh our options. We can also change the direction during an encounter. If the time dictates a change, raise or lower the level accordingly. We just need to know what time it is. God, Provider of all times, we give you thanks for allowing us to experience the wide range of emotions. Help us to react to situations in the proper manner. May we always know what time it is. Amen.
