For many years the word victim was used to describe a person who was injured, maimed or even killed in an accident or by another individual. The moniker has also been adapted to include people who were cheated or swindled by an untrustworthy person or corporation. But as of late, there seems to be a whole new category of people who fall into the classification of victim. There seems to be an epidemic of self victimization sweeping the globe. These are people who choose to wallow in their own self pity, they emphasize and exaggerate any and all unpleasant circumstances that they are forced to encounter. They focus solely on the trials and tribulations of life, while most others chalk them up as simple bumps in the road. They revel in creating drama and feed off of negativity like a mosquito feeds off the blood of its host. But these kind of victims are not content with living alone in their negative worlds, they attempt to rope in those who are closest to them. They constantly complain and grumble about their lives to all who will listen, but yet have no intention of ever accepting help from others or helping themselves to change the situation. These individuals are so self absorbed that they live their lives in this detrimental way, just to get sympathy and attention from anyone who will listen. I have spent the last few years trying to help some people who live this way and I have realized that no one can be helped, if they dont want to be. So what can we do? I think the best thing we can do for them and ourselves is to not feed into their drama. Choose to stay positive. Do not give them the attention that they crave and maybe, just maybe they will realize that how they have chosen to live is actually doing them irreversible damage. Compassion, generosity and Love are things we should offer to all sentient beings, but once they are refused, we must move along and find the next soul who truly wants them from us.
