For me, it really got cranked up in 1958, when I was ten years old. I was born in Harlan County, KY, so by birth right (if not by school of college graduation), I was always a hard core Kentucky Wildcat fan--both football and basketball, but particularly the latter (of course!). The Cats won the NCAA Championship that year, and I remember Dick Parsons--from Yancy, KY---was a key player. I joined my mother, father and sister at my grandmothers place in Loyall, KY to watch the championship game with Texas Western in 1966. To this day, I really havent gotten over that loss (though I got to meet Pat Riley and Larry Conley of that team later that summer at an autograph signing session in Lexington). There were more glories, of course, and more championship. My sister, Brenda Harris, and my wife, Wilma B. Flanary, can tell you about my late mother sitting by the radio, listening to Caywood Ledford on every game. Thats right EVERY game. Win or lose, she listened. She always had faith in the Cats (and the Cincinnati Reds). But these Cats today really inspired me by beating Michigan. I dont know if theyll win it all...but they certainly can. They have nothing to lose now, because it was a lack-luster season. But that was then, and this is now. GBB!!
