For modern man, GOD is simply a topic for discussion. Hes no longer the supreme sovereign of our life. Of the people alive today, 99 percent claim to believe in GOD, but only 59 percent have ever read even one passage from the Bible, and fewer than 40 percent regularly attend a church. This is the kind of GOD that the serpent (the devil or satan) wanted human beings to worship: a GOD in name only, a puppet god who is at the service of his creatures, to whom they need make no commitments, much less need to obey.
