For most people this will be - TL;DR. I just read an article ( linked for reference only ) that discussed the work of Satan in the aftermath of the Auburn & Alabama game. It referenced verbal abuse by the ushers during and after the game and death threats delivered to the Alabama field goal kicker via social media. Look, I can see what youre saying... Given the opportunity to shine and to show greater character, fans of both teams failed miserably. (only some failed, others were very supportive) But if you think that the work of Satan is only manifest in the chaos of a heated rivalry and not in the current normal state of the world... Start with this... Jesus performed the sermon on the mount and fed 5,000 with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish. What would Jesus do today with the combined Athletic Department budget of Alabama and Auburn? (for FY 2011-2012, $94.6 & $88.7 million respectively $183 million combined...) What could Jesus do with that amount of money? Mainly, he would tell you to give it to someone else... he wouldnt want or need the money... but since the options are pretty slim right now for charitable groups who actually put most of the money towards helping others, lets see if we can come up with 3 things... First, Since Jesus might not qualify for a religious tax break from the IRS with the crooked folks running the show right now. So, Jesus would give unto Cesar that which is Cesars without hiring lobbyists to push for a tax break. Second, Jesus would help the needy. (did you notice the word needy in there... I doubt hed demonize people for their past indiscretions which led them to hard times... he had this Forgiveness thing down pat.) He probably wouldnt require drug testing to qualify for help. Jesus would keep helping those who came forward... even if they were abusing the system. Third, Jesus would take greyhound busses, walk, hitchhike or bum a ride around the country to spread his message... do you think hed have a Lear Jet? Would he spend time hanging out with the multi-millionaire prosperity gospel folks like the Crouches? Sorry for the long rant... but IF... IF... Jesus was here today and walked in this world, he would abhor the amount of time and effort spent worship golden calves, both the so called Amateur sports and the Professional sports But lets be honest... if Jesus came back today, hed be panned and vilified by the TV Evangelists and the conservative media groups for his Socialist ideals. Rush and the Fox crew would totally start a smear campaign and link Jesus to other controversial figures.. like the Pope...
