For my American friends: So I guess these grow in other places but Ive only ever seen or eaten one in Malta. Gidra in Maltese. Tastes like a cross between jicama and a turnip. Also called kolhrabi, is a cold-hardy Brassica with mild flavor and crisp texture. The young greens can be eaten also, very nutritious! Kohlrabi is not a root crop. The bulb is actually the stem just above soil level. It swells out into this tender, sweet tasting vegetable, which can be eaten raw or cooked.
