For my first blog of the New Year I didn’t want to write a generic essay on how I’m going to change my life through new goals. Yeah, it’s important, and I have set some new things in motion for 2015, but they really aren’t of interest to anyone else. However, one of the neat projects I’ve started in the literary category is the introduction and release of my first Aldaya themed novella. It is a very smart literary move that will draw attention to your new novels and broaden the scope of your work without clogging it up with interesting, yet confusing, details. And it can also be used as a great sales tool. I had always toyed around with the idea of releasing a short story involving the world of Aldaya and the characters, but I thought I would release a more Tolkien-esque Book of Lost Tales style compilation in between books five and six. But during the writing process of book one I realized that Aldaya had so much to tell. There was so much history and back story that went along with Mim and Eolan that I was teetering on the edge of characters sounding like thesauruses when describing historical moments of interest or delving into an important piece of back story. It drove me crazy, because it was needed but didn’t have any particular relevance in the chapter or fit correctly with the flow.
