For nearly two weeks lawyers asked questions, witnesses gave answers. Testimony was given, notes were taken. Finally a verdict was reached and a jury has spoken. Guilty. Of second degree murder. The People of the State of Michigan v Theodore Wafer brought the world into a courtroom inside the Frank Murphy Hall of Justice. It also brought the members of the Wafer and the McBride families together. But one question remains...what brought Theodore Wafer and Renisha McBride together in the first place which resulted in a tragic death, an unfortunate trial and a guilty verdict? Not long after McBride was found dead, I retraced her steps, although from the cozy confines of my car. I started from the accident scene on Brammell and Majestic and ended at the front porch of Theodore Wafer. For the life of me, I still cannot logically or practically figure out how she wound up at his doorstep two miles away. Watch the video. Notice how many houses, telephones and other places she passed, even at 1:00 am, that might have rendered aid or assistance. What happened in those missing three hours until she arrived at Wafers doorstep will perhaps never be known. And now well never know if it would have made a difference. Take two minutes and twenty-five seconds and tell me what you think after watching the video.
