For our TBT we take you back 50 years ago: The Mountain Mail, Jan. 15, 1965: One airport was fogged in and the other was muddy. So pilot Paul Wilson landed on the highway. Wilson, a Cortez private pilot, was returning on a flight from Bryce Canyon, Utah, Thursday when he was told the Cortez airport was fogged in and the gravel strip at Dove Creek, 38 miles north, was too muddy to land. He had the Colorado State Patrol clear a section of U.S. 160 near the city and landed his single-engine craft on the highway. For more of our Past Tense column visit themountainmail/community
