For over ten years I have suffered in silence and shame over a skin condition. For over ten years I have been told by doctors that its just because im fat, or that i have poor hygiene. For over ten years i have been afraid of letting anyone get physically close to me because i was afraid hey would think im disgusting. I have a skin condition that causes me to get lumps or boils to form on my thighs, beasts, and belly. Tonight i FINALLY found out what it is. Its a condition called Hidradenitis suppurativa. There is no known cure, and sadly no effective treatment....but just to have the stigma of me being disgusting lifted from my shoulders has sent me into tears. Im not sharing this for pity, and outing myself to this is still a huge blow to my self esteem, but if any of my friends have been suffering in silence like I have, i want them to know youre not alone.
