For some reason I had to look up the word Philanthropist today and the meaning really touched me. In the article I read Philanthropy etymologically means love of humanity in the sense of caring for, nourishing, developing, and enhancing... and it compared philantrophy with charitable giving like this... The difference commonly cited is that charity relieves the pains of social problems, whereas philanthropy attempts to solve those problems at their root causes the difference between giving a hungry man a fish, and teaching him how to fish for himself. That saying - of teaching a man to fish- has always been part of my philopsophy in life. So after reading this I now understand why Im becoming much more comfortable with the idea of being a philanthropist and why a part of my spirit was resisting just charitable giving alone, I knew there had to be something more. There was something much deeper going on - I wanted to affect peoples lives for the good, and make a positive, real, long term change not put a smiling faced :-) bandaid on a gapping wound. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philanthropy
