For the Refuah Shelemah OF Ruth Bat Ahuva! If someone possesses an extremely valuable gemstone, can we automatically assume that he will take great care of it? The answer is that if he understands its value, he will keep it polished, in a safe place, take care not to drop it and insure it for its true value, whatever the premium. If, on the other hand, he is not aware of its value, he will simply leave it lying around, without insurance, and would not be upset if it got stolen. The Torah is the most precious gift in the world which was given to the Jewish people. Torah study is equal to all other commandments. In fact, we are told that the study of Torah is more valuable than the Kohen Gadol being able to enter the innermost part of the Temple Sanctuary. Those who realize this, study it happily, day and night, with great enjoyment, because they comprehend its untold value. One must take care however to understand that the learning is not the final goal, but that it is for the purpose of performing the commandments correctly. HATZLOCHA RABBA
