For the entirety of our existence on this planet disease has been - TopicsExpress

For the entirety of our existence on this planet disease has been with us, the unwanted guest we cannot evict. Today even, we cannot guarantee that we are so advanced that a disease will not in a future time arise with a complexity, and intensity of effect, to extinct us, in the same way that animals have no guarantee that we will not finish them. A friend of mine remarked recently that this is directly linked to how we see evolution in modern society- as something that comes to us in increments, comes to us because that is how evolution works, like unexpected checks in the mail. This is partly due to the fact that we were not cognitively sharp enough in the hay-day of evolution to have realized what was happening to us, and that we were actually doing it for ourselves. but the impetus was disguised: we wanted food, more space, more comfort, to not be eaten alive, but it had been our work. Now we are almost ultra-aware organisms, waiting for the same autonomic verve to take us over, and launch us into something or somewhere cool. We have lost the capacity to not really know, so invariably it will be deliberate action from here on in my friends. It is for us to see the opportunity when it arrives. The buffer of disguise is gone, but the hope of clean genetics has just come, not from one person, but milleniums of evolution. I cannot speak for you , but Im glad to be aware of it. And after all the panting, and disbelief, it will remain, quite deliberately. Einstein once said that God does not play dice, thankfully, neither does evolution. #
