For the first time in my life, I truly feel that I’m a citizen of Sri Lanka. I have been voting at various elections since 2007, but today, for the first time, I was able to vote for the candidate I prefer, because it was my father who voted on behalf of me this time, whereas in earlier occasions, I had to trust people whom I don’t know, which really felt uneasy, since I would never know as to whether my vote was actually cast, or whether my vote actually did count. Anyways, I’m really glad this time that everything went smoothly and I know that my vote counts! However, one day, I wish that I can cast my own vote, without relying or depending on any other person, which would truly make me a full and empowered citizen of this country!
