For the first time in nearly a-100 years, the Turkish government - TopicsExpress

For the first time in nearly a-100 years, the Turkish government has decided to build a Christian Church in its country thats dominated with the religion and influential methodologies and philosophies of Islam and Arabism (even though, Islam is NOT a Turkish religion to begin with). The church is for the small Syriac community in Turkey and will be built in the Istanbul suburb of Yesilkoy on the shores of the Sea of Marmora, which already has Greek Orthodox, Armenian and Catholic churches. The announcement came after PM Ahmet Davutoglu met Turkeys religious leaders in Istanbul on Friday (January 2) and claimed that no faith has lived in Turkey could be regarded as foreign. Davutoglu added, Churches have been restored and reopened to the public, but n new church has been built until now, It is the first since the creation of the republic (in 1923). Turkey once had a large Christian minority, is now 99% Muslim and critics of the ruling Justice and Development Party have accused it of trying to Arabicize its officially secular society. As part of its bid to join the European Union, Ankara has made efforts to widen minority rights and return some seized property as well as restore churches, monasteries and Jewish-synagogues!
