For the first time since 1966, the public will have the chance to travel by steam train on part of the former Barnstaple Branch. During the Steam Fayre and Vintage Vehicle Rally held on 2 and 3 August 2014 at Norton Fitzwarren, steam hauled brake van rides will operate along half a mile of railway of the recently restored trackbed of the erstwhile Devon and Somerset Railway which ran from Taunton to Barnstaple. This section forms part of the railways Norton Triangle which is used for turning steam locomotives and other railway vehicles. Sadly passengers will not be able to travel all stations to Barnstaple but nevertheless it will be a notable occasion.
