For the past month, it has not been hard to see that Turkey has become involved in many points where the USA has pulled back. Good relations with Iran, images of friendship between Davutoğlu and Zarif and messages from Iran to Turkey saying, “let us resolve Syria together” all send messages of a grand alliance for the region. Let us also remember that good Iranian-Turkish relations also mean good Shiite-Sunni relations. Let us move on to Iraq. The major tension with our friend Iraq over the last two years began with Davutoğlu’s visit to northern Iraq independently of Baghdad, the agreements signed there and with Deputy Prime Minister Hashimi, sentenced to death by the Iraqi regime, seeking asylum in Turkey. This tension with Iraq led to new questions about Turkey’s foreign policy following strong criticism of its policies toward Egypt and Syria.
