For the past three years, Ive been spending the majority of my days working with a group of people unknown to me just a few years ago. 3 years ago I was to accept a new job with M&B after having been at my previous job for four years. Leaving one job and starting a new job - a new anything, really -- is scary. But right away these new people made me feel at home. My nervousness turned to excitement, and these strangers turned into friends. Today is my last day, and though Im excited to be embarking on this new chapter in my life, Im sad to be leaving some of the people I have spent so much time with over the past few years. From them Ive learned that we all influence the lives of others, especially those we see on a daily basis. Without some of these people, I dont think I would be where I am today. As I bid my farewell to these soon-to-be former colleagues, I want to give a few shout-outs to those who influenced and inspired me. Regardless of whether the act was big or small, each of these individuals did something to impact the time I spent working with them and Im grateful to have spent time with them. Here are some shout-outs to the people who really made a difference in my day-to-day experience: John Kirkwood - Thank you for always having a positive attitude and being so helpful and responsive. You always provided such great direction whenever I asked for your help. And I wouldnt have been able to get some of my achievements that hugely helped me without your help. Thank you also for your help in getting the KST position, even though it didn’t end as planned it still gave me so much to grow with, as a mentor you did me proud. Steve Taylor – Mate that bloody kitchen when we first landed in it?? with you by my side we we turned it around and made it good and set it on the right path, together we saw naive faces come through the door and become chefs. Thank you Steve as second chefs go you excelled, as a friend you were immense Matt Jones, Tom Ironside, Rachel & Jess Frost, Kayleigh Bradshaw, Kat Garton, Emma Atkinson - Thank you all for being team awesome! With you all working with me we were able to get 11 5 ratings from EHO and the internal auditors!! something that the Rosette had never achieved before, but more importantly working with you guys wasn’t like spending time with colleagues but more like Family and in the pressure world of catering that’s important. Maybe people in head office should take note as that is really what people are about Keiran Dale - Thank you for getting rid of that bloody stupid hat oh and always turning down your music (begrudgingly) when I asked you to. (And, more importantly, thank you for uploading “Pull yer pants up”to my phone just for me so I could enjoy the only bit of your music I liked.) seriously though thank you for putting up with my constant nagging ,nudging and “coaching during your training. Youve come so far and are well on your way I have trained many chefs during my career but you made me the proudest ! Patsy Russell- Thank you for telling me you think Im a great guy. It was a small thing and you said that day when I was down and probably thought it was silly, but it has stuck with me and is a little burst of happiness when Im not feeling my best. Its also been a great reminder for me to tell other people when I think something positive about them. Compliments are so easy to give but I dont dole them out often enough. Harminder Dhesi - As an RBM you are good but as a person who pushes people to achieve you really are the best, I hope I did a good Job for you and your districts, since I met you I have changed both in attitude and personality, all for the better, I may not be able to swim with sharks But with your help I was able to excel in the things I can do Mikey Summerville and Andy Foley - Thanks for always been so helpful and upbeat. No matter what Ive asked you to help with, youve always been up for it -- and handled every request with a positive attitude. Its been fantastic to have such helpful colleagues out on the corporate side and youve inspired me to stay positive no matter how much work has to be done. The L&D team is lucky to have you both and I hope they know it! pS - Im still clocking up those 1%s All the Accredited Kitchen Managers of Oaktree & Sizzling Pubs - Thank you for sharing my affinity for all things Kitchen. Thanks for listening to me and also working with me I hope I have been of use to you all but I must specially thank Dave Mortimer, Scott GateKeeper, Dhaliwal Harsh , Damo Such Mcleavie and Dennis Szendrei – together I know we made a difference – Mitchells and Butlers are lucky to have people like you Heather Hartnett - Thanks for being so excited about my new career path. Hearing you say the words, Im so excited for you! really makes me even more excited for the journey Im about to embark on so thank you for that! Colin Holmes- Thanks for chatting with me for a bit in the Rozza Kitchen the other day about my upcoming plans. Its exciting to have people interested in what Im doing. Also, thanks for helping me Getting the Kitchen sorted again after the raping its had over the past few months. I Hope its better now for you and the new Rosette Kitchen Crew Richard Vinny Vincent - Thank you for being one of the hardest workers I know. Your work ethic continues to astound me -- and that dedication and focus is impressive beyond belief. Im hoping I can mirror a work ethic like that in my new local Jill Ward - Thanks for telling me I couldnt leave when the resignation time came. That certainly made me feel appreciated! Also, thanks for always having such an upbeat attitude. Ive never seen you in a grumpy mood or act irritated or impatient with anyone. Every time I see you, you have a smile on your face and a cheerful comment. Keep up the positivity! And good luck with the Rosette, A KM will come along soon and lets just say never say never our paths may cross again Josie Taylor - Thank you for embracing me into your team when I arrived almost three years ago. With such a small team, it was probably difficult to get adjusted to a new member, but you were incredibly patient with me as I was learning the ropes (and even patient when I didnt want to be involved with the ropes on the ropes course, ha!). Thanks for accepting me as I am -- that delicate flower with a bit of a stubborn side. Im so appreciative of all of the opportunities youve given me to focus on what I enjoy doing. Youve done such a great job of identifying my strengths and giving me opportunities that allow me to use them, which, in my opinion, is one of the best characteristics a boss can possess. Weve had a lot of fun over the past couple of years, with everything from learning about “t-bagging??? to learning the Hakka at the crazy meeting, and Im so grateful for all the opportunities youve given me. Thank you also for being so supportive when I told you I was going to all those RSC interviews As you can imagine, I was incredibly nervous to about it, but you were 100% understanding. You were encouraging and excited for me. Im lucky to have worked for you over the past couple of years and even though things ended badly with one thing and another its made me a stronger person. Oaktree & Sizzling Pubs - Heres the thing... I dont even know where to begin with this one. (Get ready for some sappiness!) Its hard for me to remember a time when you werent in my life. Weve become so close over the past few years and I now consider you one of my best memories. Even though I know well still always be a part of each other, not working with you on a daily basis is going to be the most difficult part of this transition. To have a role that turns into a real, true dream job is rare, and Im so thankful to have that with you. Ive enjoyed all our ups and downs, the long hours the highs the lows. The people and teams that work within you are the best guys and gals I have ever known and they all contribute to you in ways that you will never know. This month is People Month, Its not about retention or facts and figures or even about seeing to look like you care, its about appreciating what these teams do and how they do it. Thank you for being supportive and encouraging of my goals and aspirations, my rise to heights was a journey of epic proportions and I am so sad to be leaving you it was never a job but definitely a way of life. Though Ive waited until my last day to give these shout-outs to my colleagues, I wish I hadnt waited so long. Writing this made me realize that we should tell people every day, whenever we notice, how great they are. Today take some time to look around you at the people in your life -- colleagues, friends, family members -- and give them the shout-outs they deserve! Remember: Theres no time like the present to high five the positive people in your life. Never look back in anger, instead always look forward with the excitement of a challenge IYADWYADYWAGWYAG
