For the philosophy which is the study of semantics, terms, - TopicsExpress

For the philosophy which is the study of semantics, terms, meaning, and conceptual clarification, one of the goals is to clarify (which is to say, have the most efficient concepts in terms of [semantic power/word count]). Yet, people are often unclear on their own terms and do not always recognize that others are saying almost the exact same thing in different terms. Occasionally, people get into head-to-head disputes over just semantics, but one side often trumps over. Im curious what you think: How much of philosophy comes down to literal negotiation over terms? How much of it has always been Socratic sophistry? Would you be okay if, the whole time, weve just been trying to manipulate each other into changing language and thought? If we were an ineffective thought police?
