For the record, I was sitting in a second grade classroom at Saint Ann School in Devon when John Kennedy got shot. If he lived, the Vietnam saga may have been different. But... - the Civil Rights movement would not have changed. Death and violence throughout the South would have occurred anyway,as it was in 1963. - The urban riots 0f 1967-68 were rooted in race and poverty. I dont see Kennedy helping much there. - Middle Eastern mistrust of the US due to our support of Israel (the motive for Bobby Kennedys assassination) would still flourish, resulting in an oil embargo sooner or later. - I dont see President Kennedy preventing the assassinations of Malcolm X or Martin Luther King. - The mid-sixties pop culture ushered in by the Beatles would have occurred anyway, along with the cultural changes that came with it. Im not sure Kennedy, an old school Catholic, would have approved. President Kennedy did ask What can you do for your country? A better question may be What can you do for your community or neighbor. If everyone helps take care of a small piece of our country, the country will take care of itself.
