For the sake of us seeing what else is going on in the global MUN community, this is a simulation that a friend of mine is taking part in at UCL (In London) We are running a Sochi Winter Olympics Crisis simulation tonight at UCL for the Model United Nations society. Well have two committees representing the Russian Government and LGBT Activists and will be simulating how each faction will react to events during Sochi. If you are interested come along, even if you havent done Model UN before. Time & Date: Tonight, 18:00 until 21:00. Location: Wilkins Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre, UCL Description: With two weeks until the 2014 Winter Olympics kick off in Russia, the recent homophobic legislation has escalated violence against LGBT individuals and drawn international attention. This unorthodox crisis simulation puts you in the shoes of either a Russian Cabinet Minister or an LGBT Rights Group Leader in the build up to the games. Crisis is different to the normal MUN format; everyone is given the power to shape events as they unfold in “real” time. This will prove to be a particularly exciting session (that will continue next week); will human rights be beaten back by police batons or will the government relent to international pressure.
