For the second year in a row, I have been scheduled to support the Starlight Spectacular and told Bike Pro-Mobile services were not needed when I arrived, no phone call in advance. I have volunteered at the Starlight for 12 years in a row as a small local business supporting a local bike event. Last year TOSC gave my spot to Bicycle Village, a Denver-based company, because they brought more money. This year TOSC gave my spot to the national chain store of Performance Bike, even more money. I do not have the same amount of money to offer TOSC that a national company does, only the skills and enthusiasm to support local events. I am no longer a volunteer because I cannot afford the money they want to support the Starlight Spectacular. P.S. The Borriello Brothers (another local small business) gave away lots of pizza and received no recognition as a sponsor of the event. Supporting local small business sounds good until a national company comes in with more money. -Blane
