For the third day in a row, GOES-13 has been placed in Rapid Scan Operations to capture more frequent imagery in support of the outbreak of severe weather across the United States. NOAA is carefully monitoring conditions across the Southeast U.S. and into the Great Lakes regions. This image from GOES-13 was captured on April 29, 2014 at 19:55 UTC. A close-up of the overshooting cloud tops associated with the areas of highest convection and storm intensity can be seen at nnvl.noaa.gov/images/high_resolution/104860v1_20140429-GOES13-close.png. Rapid Scan Operations simulate the type of imagery that will be regularly available with the GOES-R series satellites.
