For the third time the clash of the ash happened at Hole in the Wall. And confirmed how any Archer Room events need to be finished before the Session gets going. Folk music and poetry cannot survive once the Session erupts. The sound proofing of the 1585 ceiling just aint adequate. There was a fine and expectant crowd in the tavern at 10.30 pm last night awaiting the music. But the Session was needing holding, holding til the poets had spoken. But eventually the crowd called out and a tune was commenced about 11.00 pm. And then the banjo, guitar and drums had to be stopped for a period. And soon afterwards a bunch of customers from California left disappointed. Tension and drama all round. Pity really. Because Johnny Keenan had pulled off another fine evening of Spoken Word where various innovations were explored. Top poets. Fun rhymes. Johnnys sister as a national soapbox champion speaker - and member of Toastmasters - mining long lost poems re classroom punishment etc. Of course there was a booby trap for the proprietor - summoned very early on. Not expecting the demand. Poems from No Forever Bride could have been ready, SHamlet could have been enacted and Titanic Tomorrow told. But it became I need a balaclava and the pound shop telephone calls from D. The idea of 4 poems to be written within minutes - based on audience proposed words was a further contribution from the house. Someone proposed orange because nothing rhymes with it! Except in Limerick! (our angelas ashes!). Offaly and porridge are recalled. There were 2 others - ?clip. In the end a piece about Offaly was crafted (thanks Johnny) where the rhyming requirement led to something more Moyross - and less Earls of Rosse. But it showed that it could work. The first verse got a few laughs and one reference to Offaly drew howls of dismissal!! Stilettos nearly flying! Well done to all. For sure, RhymeAndReason has potential. Eventually the rhymes will lead to not only poems but newly composed tunes by the end of the night! Theres a challenge. Looking at photos of our few remaining customers at the Session last night, the future images of members of the Kkkaberet band are not difficult to discern. All good fun. Another song for Kkkaberet surfaced yesterday re Eliza Gulbert. And yet the dark clouds of uncertainty re mounting it began to cast a shadow. A potential Master of Ceremonies (MC (Emcee - USA)) turned down the idea and proposed that it be a drag show! Naw. No dragsters needed. Pure circus.
