For this Friday, Michael will be treating you with not three, but four great beer samples in the Oktoberfest style. Traditional Oktoberfest beers are also called “Märzen”, meaning they were historically brewed in March for fall consumption. They are malt-forward beers with very little hop presence and are gold to deep amber in color. We’ll be tasting: Lake Superior Oktoberfest is a pure copper color. Fruity caramel and toast aromas follow through on a dry-yet-fruity medium body with sweet roasted grain and toasted notes in fine balance. Hacker-Pschorr Festbier is a rich golden color with full-bodied maltiness and Hallertau hop balance. It’s a lighter hued, drier version of Oktoberfest beer brewed with their centuries old lager yeast strain. Paulaner Oktoberfest Märzen is amber-hued with a full malt aroma. The taste offers a nutty light roast with an emphasis on malt sweetness thats smooth and well balanced with subtle, but noticeable hop flavor. This is a top-notch Oktoberfest beer. Leinenkugel Über-Oktoberfest is a bolder, toastier beer, as evidenced by a high 8.5% ABV. With a tawny orange hue, toasted malts and spicy hops, this beer is then dry-hopped for added hop complexity. These “Beers of the Week” will be offered at a special discounted price during the tasting and for the entire week!
