For those attempting to use this murder to delegitimize the movement against police brutality, there is a fundamental flaws in the connection between the two that needs to be discussed: As the International Socialist Organization of Boston put it: The violence of the state & its racism wont be solved by individualistic acts of terror -- only mass struggle can do that. Acts like this actually push the movement backwards, as it demobilizes people and gives the state a justification to crack down on the movement as a whole. That is to say, no person involved in this movement who is serious about ending state violence would commit such an act of terror. It not only defeats the purpose of community building and collective action, but provides ammunition to those whose only goal is to stop the movement. They can (and will) twist these stories to say that this man represents the movement; that he was fueled by the protests that have been happening over the past few months. But that is simply not true. This was a violent and possibly disturbed INDIVIDUAL and not a member of the collective, as are the other hundreds of thousands who have not physically attacked a single police officer. The goal of this person was to kill the police. The goal of the movement is to remove them from a position that allows them to target and terrorize poor communities that largely consist of people of color.
