For those needing help here is a sample memo you can send to Steve Ashton Tansi, Minister Steve Ashton. The writer is a member of Tataskweyak Cree Nation and an elector of provincial and federal elections. The writer is emailing you as the Minister responsible for the provinces Infrastructure and Transportation. As an elector in all provincial elections, the writer is contacting your office to draw your attention to the neglected PR 280, which is the main access to the communities in this area, namely Tataskweyak Cree nation, and the neighbouring communities of York factory and Fox Lake. The announcement that was made by your government approximately 3 years ago about improvements to this specific provincial road has yet to be seen in terms of improvements for the better. Since the Manitoba Hydro developments have begun in these immediate areas, the road conditions have only deteriorated to hazardous conditions due to increased flow of the heavy construction traffic. PR 280 is utilized by the communities on a daily basis to access services from the Hub of the North, namely thompson Manitoba. The communities have medical patients travelling on these deplorable roads on a daily basis, especially those with chronic health conditions and those requiring dialysis regularly at the TGH dialysis unit. The writer is emailing to request your government to take immediate action to these concerns to prevent unnecessary fatalities as a result if the terrible road conditions. In addition to this major concern regarding the provincial access road, another major concern pertains to the lack of physician services in the community of Tataskweyak Cree Nation now for well over 5- 6 months to date. The provincial government also promised to have every Manitoban to have their own physician by 2015- this is not evident in the community of TCN at all to date, and not foreseeable by your governments target date. The First Nations population is being nurse triaged and referred to thompson as necessary, and again having to be transported on the treacherous road to Thompson. The community is very upset with both levels of governments - provincial and federal, for the neglect of their peoples health and safety. The people have begun discussing further action if there is no response and action by the governments to make positive change for the livelihood and wellbeing of the communities affected, namely Tataskweyak Cree Nation. Thank you for your timely and positive response to our plea for action by your government. Have a great day Honourable Minister Ashton and hope to hers from your office real soon. Ekosi.
