For those of you following the story on Hank, you probably know much of this already. I have to share with the rest. Once in a while a true wonderful humane being shows all of us what a real rescue is. Well, thats happened recently here in Arizona. Hank is thought to be a former bait dog, scarred up and heaven only knows what hes gone through. Karen Nelson decided she didnt care what it took, she was going to get Hank off the streets and give him a better life. It wasnt a well thought out plan to begin with, more of a fly by the seat of your pants kinda thing. It all worked out due to her perseverance and heart the size of Texas! Karen had no where to keep Hank and of course all of the rescues were full and had nowhere to put him so Karen searched around and found an amazing boarding facility in Apache Junction, Hopes Boarding Camp. So Hank went there to recuperate and heal up. Meanwhile, Karen began the search for Hanks forever home. Leaving no stone unturned she posted him everywhere she could think of, called every rescue she could but came up empty handed until a family in Alaska offered to take him. Now what??? She checked with truckers, nope. Checked with airlines, nope, they had since banned pits from flying on commercial airlines. She then turned to Pilots for Paws and they didnt have anyone that flew into Alaska due to the special needs of those planes. Okay she decided, if nothing else she would just take Hank herself! I was personally amazed the day she called me and said that. In the back of my head I thought what an amazing adventure and if I could afford it Id tag along with her. :) When she described the trip and it involved a car, a ferry ride (3 day ride) a plane ride back to her car and then the drive home, I thought shes a better woman than me (and still think so) I wouldnt do that whole trip alone! Well, she did it and heres the proof. Hank is now safe and sound in Alaska and I hope hes got a parka! Thanks Karen for showing us all how to rescue, youre amazing!!!
