For those of you that didnt know, I have spent the last four days serving as a juror at US District Court. I moaned and groaned when I got my jury summons about a month ago like we all do but went in with an open mind (although knowing darn well they would never pick ME!) I was wrong, they did pick me along with eleven other people to hear this case and decide, based only on the evidence given, to find the defendant guilty or not guilty. Its certainly nothing to take lightly. I came home every evening exhausted from listening to all the testimonies and cross examinations and for a reason that is still unclear to me, listening to the attorneys say the same sentence five different ways only to get the same answer! Not to mention how hard it was for me personally not to be able to talk for approximately 6 hours a day! I want to let you know that my juror experience was wonderful. The twelve of us worked together so well and took the time to listen to everyones opinions, concerns and feelings all the while basing our final decision on the facts and the law while deciding this persons fate. It was by no means an easy job but I am confident that the decision that was made today was the right one. I for one am proud to be a citizen of this country and glad that my first jury experience was such a good one. Sincerely, Juror #8
