For those of you that didnt know, this past year I pursued my dream of not only being a Firefighter but being an Arlington Firefighter! I cant begin to tell you what it takes to chase your dreams. If it took sacrificing I did it...I left my family behind in Lubbock to move closer to train, I had a full time job and a part time job busting my @** to prepare my body mentally and physically to get to where I needed to be. I was either at work, the gym, pulling a tire, doing bleachers with a 75 lb. weighted vest, pushing a car up an incline, sleeping, showering, or eating. I sacrificed my time with my family and friends. My baby girl Presley didnt even know who I was. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself in the position of not knowing what your outcome will be. But for those of you that know me I dont half @** anything. Not a card I write you or a simple txt to tell you how special you are. Firefighter is one of the most sought out jobs in America and one of the most competitive to say the least. I came in the Top 250 to advance, passed the 1.5 mile run at AT&T Stadium and made it to the Physical Agility. One step away from an interview. And I fell short by 6 seconds! An entire year of sacrifice for 4 minutes of my life to determine it all. I was crushed. In the end, it really is the trails and tribulations that make you who you are. Well that and an incredible family to stand behind you thru the sweat, blood, tears, and pain no matter what the end result is. I knew all along I had that amazing family but tonight they completely blew me away!!! They planned to surprise me and get me over to my sister Trisha Carters house for the Broncos game today and then they played a word scrabble game with me to let me know how proud of me they are! Im still shocked...but everyone chipped in to send me on a 4 day trip to Denver, CO to see the Denver Broncos in person and visit my sister from another mother Amerie Olivares. Blessed isnt even the word to describe how I feel about the family I have! Thank you to each and everyone one of you who contributed with the trip or just with your support!!! Im truly appreciative of it all!!! Next year it will be my turn to surprise yall with my Arlington Fire Department Pinning!!! Get ready family...the ride has just begun!!!
