For those of you that dont get the Ice Bucket Challenge ... It is meant as a wake up call and to increase awareness for the devastating disease called ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) otherwise know as Lou Gherigs disease. My niece, Shelly, was diagnosed with ALS when she was 24 years old. She is 42 now. She has been an inspiration to all of us. Even though she has lost the ability to speak and is fed through a tube, her mind is intact. Most people would become depressed and isolated from others but not her. She remains just as funny, loving and caring as she was before her diagnosis. We (our family and friends) love Shelly very much and appreciate Peter Frates for his courage and strength in initiating this challenge, inspite of what he and his family are facing with this disease. Donating money for ALS is not all that this is about. It is to raise peoples awareness. Please watch this video so you understand how the ice bucket challenge got started before you criticize those for taking on the challenge and donating to ALS.
