For those of you that know about the tragic passing of my kinkajou - TopicsExpress

For those of you that know about the tragic passing of my kinkajou Rick James, I just received a phone call from a friend Dr. Edwards. He operates a mobile vet clinic and was/is at Ponchartrain animal hospital. He didn’t realize it was me calling at the time (I left a desperate recording on July 4th for him on his machine,) and even though some time has passed, he called to express his concern and sadness that anyone (me) was going through that and he could hear from my voice that it was desperate. He called me today to check on me (keep in mind he didn’t realize it was me). Out of the blue he felt compelled to express his sadness over my loss and a pet he had never even met. I told him it was me, and we chatted for a bit. Part of our conversation focused on the horrible mess with both BANFIELD ANIMAL HOSPITAL at PetSmart and MEDVET in Mandeville. He said that although Rick James was an exotic animal, they were compelled to at least administer basic first aid. They did not do so. Basic mammalian anatomy is all they needed (and that’s what they’re professionals in,) to know. They denied basic first aid, emergency assistance based on the fact that they’re not “allowed” to see exotic animals. Getting an animal, no matter what the breed, stabilized then transported to a specialty clinic is incumbent upon them. Shame on these two “clinics” for denying basic aid and comfort to a dying animal. And a thank you to a very compassionate Dr. Michael Edwards DVM.
