For those of you who have known me for quite awhile, you know that I have a heart for helping others. I often cheer for the underdog and I hate to see people slip through the cracks. Even when I taught high school, I tried to the very best of my ability to be the teacher who realized that creating well-rounded students went far beyond the textbook. I absolutely loved my time as Student Council Advisor and Dance Team Coach and the time I spent one on one with these amazing young women and men are some of my fondest memories. Unfortunately however, the world has increasing pressures for the youth of today and many are left without any real sense of belonging. At conference this year and last we learned about an organization that is partnered with Thirty-One called Girl Talk. After hearing an alarming statistic that a girls self-esteem peaks at the age of 9, I decided that I really needed to follow my heart and pursue starting a local chapter of this national organization.The mission of Girl Talk is to empower young girls to become strong confident women. High school girls mentoring middle school girls. I have been praying about this for over a year and I feel like now is the time to move on it. If this is something you may be interested in joining forces with me to help begin, please let me know. To begin a chapter we need 1 high school girl, 1 middle school girl, and a meeting place where we can meet once a week for an hour. I am looking to start one with students at CAMS North or JBMS mygirltalk.org
