For those praying for Rebecca....... Rebecca is out of surgery and in the recovery room. They are going to try to keep her pretty sleepy through the night. Christyn reports the following: 1) The doctors found quite a bit of infection/pus in her open abdominal wound that they cleaned out just a few days ago....so they washed it out and cleaned and debrided it again today. 2) They are still concerned there may be another pocket of infection that they have not discovered yet, but because they found this OBVIOUS site of infection, they did not want to jeoparize Rebecca with another potential infection by opening up a new area. They have started 2 new IV antibiotics hoping to cover any and all bugs that are lurking where they should not be. 3) The doctors explored in Rebeccas lower abdominal area....the site where they had excised her duodenum and reattached the end to the jejunum was leaky...so they cleaned up and reinforced that area. Because Rebecca is on blood thinners, she runs the risk of bleeding in any spot of her body. This site was a recent surgical site, and so is a natural place for bleeding to have occurred. They keep CLOSE CHECKS on the blood thinner levels, but even a small rise too high can create problems with bleeding for her. The doctors also believe she has some gastric ulcers....so she is being treated for this as well. 4) One of the MAIN issues the doctors see right now for Rebecca is her very poor MALNOURISHED BODY.....she barely weighed over 70 lbs today....a child her age should be somewhere around 105 lbs. With her continued bleeding issues and her malnourished state, the doctors are saying it is very difficult to move forward and begin healing when her body is SO DEPLETED of resources----nutrition and blood loss. 5) She continues with the blood clotting issues which is what is necessitating the blood thinners she is receiving.....it is pretty complicated...this affects that, and that affects this..... So, Army of God, this is the update for today.....another VERY FULL DAY IN THE LIFE OF REBECCA......
