For those that may be turned off by the messages of modern religion, you might want to check out the FB page Kissing Fish. What distances me from certain religions is the loud cries that you must believe THIS because it is in the Bible, but THAT (which is also in the Bible), nope THAT we don’t worry too much about. The demands that you MUST believe exactly like we believe or God will not accept you. There are churches out there for those interested in a more open-minded outlook, United Churches of Christ being one. This was a recent post from a fan of Kissing Fish: I was raised midwestern-Lutheran, in the kind of church where no one judged personal lives but were always quick to help the hungry or those in need. Although I dont consider myself religious these days, more garden-variety spiritualist, those teachings and that view of Christianity are still strong in me, in very stark contrast to the heartless hyper-conservative varieties that seem to dominate the media. I dont want to judge anyone for their beliefs, but to me, Kissing Fish (the book and the FB page) exemplifies a type of compassion that really captures what I was taught Christianity was about, Gods children trying to treat each other with love and understanding. Seeing that attitude in your posts and in the responses of people who follow the page is amazing and uplifting. Thank you for being who you are, posting what you do, and inspiring people to be excellent to each other, as Bill and Ted would say; this world is a better place because of your part in it.
