For those that may not know, last Friday I graciously accepted my nomination to be the New Democratic Party candidate for York South-Weston. I am looking forward to the election. Together we will bring an end to the violent assault on Canadas social safety net perpetrated by Liberal and Conservative governments of the present and past. We will work to build an economy that works for all Canadians and ensures that no one is left behind. I cannot describe how proud I am of my staff. Thanks to them my office has been able to work closely, guide and solve the problems of many constituents that have reached out for help. Under my leadership I will continue to fight for a living wage for not only those living in York South-Weston, but all Canadians. While seizing every opportunity to create real jobs and opportunities that are sustainable in our community. That means when there are large Metrolinx infrastructure projects taking place in our riding - the people from our riding are hired. Under my leadership I will continue to fight for supporting our veterans during times of conflict - and after. Its a shame that we have Veterans Affairs Canada, Minister Julian Fantino telling white lies about veterans funding for political gain. $200 million dollars over 50 years, what a joke. Under my leadership I will continue to tackle poverty. Through the creation of a national affordable housing strategy and national childcare program, we can lift so many in York South-Weston that have fallen through the cracks. We can do this and more. It is about time wealthy corporations paid their fair share and tax cuts to multinational insiders were brought to an end. York South-Weston needs a strong voice. A voice that represents the values of our community. A voice that will stand up to special interests and a voice that you can count on to always be there. There is still much work to be done.
