For those that weren’t at the Fayre this weekend, I have the opportunity to give you a chuckle this Monday morning. I think every dancer has had a performance in his/her life that they would prefer to forget. It doesn’t matter that the photos are good when your performance sucked. This Saturday was my day for this to happen. I arrived about an hour in advance of my performance slot, music on the memory stick, which I had listened to the very morning before leaving home. Shalimar gets announced, I have my sword in hand, ready on stage, and the music starts. First disaster: My piece for performing is a dramatic Violin piece, instead, a piano piece starts playing, and to top it all, I’ve never heard this song. In embarrassment I tried to figure out what was going on, then the next song which my student was to perform on started playing. After struggling for a few minutes I decide to perform on the piano piece, keeping fingers crossed that I don’t mess up completely as the audience is getting agitated. Instead of the Piano piece, my partners piece starts, and I have no option but to perform on her piece. Disaster number two: My student needs to perform and the only music available is the same number I performed on, yet she did an amazing job, so disaster was averted. The final embarrassment: My music suddenly reappears on the memory stick. Where it went during the performance I have no idea, but I hope it doesn’t happen again. One thing I can say about Saturday’s performance is my student did a phenomenal job. Even though my performance capabilities might not have appeared that good, okay to be honest it seemed like I didn’t know what I was doing, my student still applied what I taught her. She stole the show, and rightly so as she deserved it with her performance.
