For those unable to attend Saturdays Regional competition, a little back story to this photo: The Dragons were the first to take the field for competition at 11 a.m. They had already been hard at work for 6 hours.. As they took the field, game faces on, there was an electricity issue, seems someone had failed to turn it on at the field. Our children did not have a moment of freaking out, they did not panic, because they have spent months in preparation for this moment. They gathered together, because they are one unit, a team, and they pooled their energy. Our guard stood on the edges, stretching their bodies and remaining limber for the battle they were about to enter. It is because they were ready for this moment, through months of practice, that it did not phase them. Instead they chose to turn to us, their parents, and give us the moment you see captured in this photo, to let us know that they were going to be just fine. When you ask me what marching band teaches a child I will tell you the list is long, but in this one moment they showed perseverance, determination, sportsmanship, confidence, grit, and more than anything else an unwavering commitment to being the best they can be, no matter the circumstances. That is the story of a champion.
