For those unfamiliar, there was a paper published last year that described changes to the genus Rhacodactylus. Being a zoologist and a bit of a taxonomy nerd, I read the 50ish page paper. To save trouble, basically the authors compared DNA of multiple specimens within a given species as well as comparing to other species from New Caledonia. The authors changed many things within Rhacodactylus. To put it simply, Rhacodactylus now includes only: auriculatus (gargoyle), leachianus (giant), trachycephalus, and trachyrhynchus Correlophus is an older genus name that has been resurrected to now include ciliatus (crested) belepensis (a new crested species) and sarasinorum A new genus, Mniarogekko now includes chahoua (chewie) and a new species which has been split from chahoua known as jalu. The paper also moved another New Caledonian animal to a new genus. A former Bavayia species, madjo, has been placed in the mono Paniegekko. Additionally, a more accurate tree of relationships between the genera and species of New Caledonia has been outlined.
