We understand that this is a complicated and divisive issue but we urge people to start informing themselves on this subject as it has caused huge controversy around the world for many reasons - health, safety, efficiency, costs, increased bills etc. Most Irish people dont know, or realise the consequences, of a government decision to roll out smart meters to every home in Ireland - gas, electricity, and of course water meters (the current meters are smart ready but not yet connected to a smart network - plus they are also already obsolete) - a decision due to affect us all in the very near future (though a few are already being tested around the country - to the denial of the utility companies and the CER). Apart from the health issues, which are the most divisive issue, there are proven concerns that smart meters are not cost effective, do not make people more energy conscious and efficient, cause huge price hikes for customers and ultimately end up putting everyone on the constant treadmill of upgrading both meters and infrastructure over and over again - at the expense of the customer. We would urge you to start thinking about this issue as the wheels have already been set in motion behind the scenes (another EU Directive). fliuch.org
